# Display modes and Picture in Picture

## Display modes

The zoom button in the player cycles how video fills the screen:

- **Fit** — the whole frame is visible, with bars if the aspect ratio differs.
- **Fill** — the video fills the screen, cropping edges as needed.
- **Safe** — a middle ground that fills the screen while keeping more of the frame than Fill.

All three modes are available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. On **Mac**, video always uses Fit, so there's no zoom button. On iPhone, the button appears in landscape.

## Picture in Picture and background audio

**Settings → Player → Picture in Picture** controls both PiP and background audio.

- **When on** — leaving the app keeps playback going: video in a floating window, or audio-only.
- **When off** — playback pauses when you leave the app.

- Available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac (Apple TV has no PiP).
- It's a [Dion Pro](/support/getting-started/what-is-dion-pro) feature, and it's switched on automatically when you upgrade.
- In the player, use the **PiP button** in the top bar to enter or exit manually.
