# Connect SMB or WebDAV storage

If your media lives as files on a NAS or computer — without a media server like Plex or Jellyfin — add it as file storage. Dion scans the folders you choose and builds a library from what it finds.

**Note**

Adding SMB and WebDAV sources is currently done on **iPhone or iPad**. On Mac these options show as coming soon — add the source on an iOS device and its supported configuration can reach your Mac through [backup](/support/sync-and-backup/how-sync-and-backup-work).

## SMB (network shares)

SMB is the standard file-sharing protocol used by NAS devices, Windows, and macOS sharing.

1. Go to **Settings → Sources** and choose **SMB** under File Storage. Servers on your network often appear automatically under **Available on Your Network**.
2. Enter the **Server Name** and **Server Address**, plus your **Username** and **Password**.
3. Under Advanced Settings you can change the **Port** (default 445), preselect a **Shared Folder**, and set the **Media Path** inside it.
4. Connect, then pick which shared folders Dion should scan under **Select Shares**.

## WebDAV

1. Go to **Settings → Sources** and choose **WebDAV** under File Storage.
2. Enter the **Server Name**, **Server URL**, **Username**, and **Password**.
3. Under Advanced you can change the **Port**, set the **Start Path**, and enable **Accept Self-Signed Certificates** for servers with self-issued TLS certificates.
4. Use the built-in folder browser to pick where your media lives.
