# Link a new device

## Same iCloud account: automatic

If the new device uses the **same iCloud account**, Dion finds your existing backup automatically — during onboarding you'll see it check iCloud and offer to connect. Approve it and your sources, progress, and settings come down on their own.

## Different account, or manual linking

Any device can be linked directly from one that's already connected:

1. On the connected device, open **Settings → Backup → Link Backup**. It shows a **QR code and a PIN** with an expiry countdown (the screen brightens to make scanning easier).
2. On the new device, choose **Scan QR Code** and point the camera at the code — or **Enter PIN** and type it (the way to go on Apple TV).
3. The first device confirms with **Device Approved**, and the new one shows **Backup Linked**. Both now share the same backup.

## Manage connected devices

**Settings → Backup** lists every device on the backup with when it was last opened.

- **Remove a device** by swiping on it — it loses access and must be linked again to reconnect. Do this if you sell or lose a device.
- **Disconnect Backup** makes the current device leave and continue with its own separate backup; your other devices keep the current one.

**Note**

Supported source configurations can be restored automatically. Some services may still ask you to sign in again, and Plex is connected separately on each device. See [how sync and backup work](/support/sync-and-backup/how-sync-and-backup-work).
