Dion respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Data Stored on Your Device

Dion stores your source configurations, local library index, favorites, watch progress, playback preferences, and app settings on your device. Sensitive sign-in information is protected using Apple's Keychain where supported.

Dion Cloud Backup

If you enable Dion Pro backup, supported source configurations, favorites, watch progress, playback preferences, and layout customizations can be shared between your linked devices. Source connection details may be included when needed to restore a supported source.

Backup records are encrypted on your device before upload. Dion's cloud service stores only encrypted records and cannot read their contents. The encryption key is shared through your iCloud Keychain or directly between devices when you link them with a QR code or PIN. Apple's CloudKit may be used to help your devices discover an existing backup, but the backup records themselves are stored by Dion in encrypted form.

Notifications

Program reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Dion does not send your device token or notification preferences to our servers. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

Subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat, a third-party service. RevenueCat processes your purchase data and subscription status on behalf of Apple's App Store. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or other personal identifiers from Dion. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Media Servers & Network Shares

When you use Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, SMB, or WebDAV, media and library requests go directly from your device to the server you connected. Dion does not proxy or host that media. Plex sign-in uses Plex's authorization service; Jellyfin, Emby, SMB, and WebDAV connect to the address you provide. Playback progress and favorites may be reported to the originating service so they remain aligned with its native apps. If backup is enabled, supported connection configurations are handled as described in Dion Cloud Backup above.

Metadata, Ratings & Connected Accounts

Dion uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to enrich content with metadata such as posters, descriptions, cast, and trailers. API requests are generally made directly from your device to TMDB. To retrieve ratings from services such as IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, Dion sends the media type and TMDB identifier to Dion's ratings service.

If you choose to connect Trakt or Simkl, Dion exchanges account, library, watched-status, and playback-progress data with that service to provide the integration. Their own privacy policies govern the data they receive. Trakt and Simkl authorization tokens are protected by the Keychain and may sync through iCloud Keychain.

Analytics, Reliability & Support

Dion uses PostHog for product analytics and Sentry for crash, performance, and error diagnostics. This can include app events, platform and app version, general country or region, subscription-linked pseudonymous identifiers, provider type, and technical details about failures. Session replay and automatic screen capture are disabled, advertising identifiers are not used, and diagnostic code is designed to redact full media URLs.

When you choose to send a problem report, Dion uploads the diagnostic information shown in that flow to our support service. Reports can include device and app details and recent technical events needed to investigate the problem.

How We Use Data

We use this data to operate backup and connected features, understand feature usage, maintain subscriptions, diagnose failures, answer support requests, and improve Dion. We do not sell personal data, run third-party advertising in Dion, or use your playlists, passwords, or viewing history for advertising.

Service Providers

Services involved in these functions include Apple, Cloudflare, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry, TMDB, Plex, Trakt, and Simkl, as applicable to the features you use. You can review the privacy policies for Apple, Cloudflare, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry, TMDB, Trakt, and Simkl.

Data Deletion

You can delete local app data by removing Dion from your device. Connected accounts can be disconnected in Dion and, where applicable, revoked in the service's own settings. You can manage linked devices under Settings → Backup. To request deletion of data held by Dion's services, contact us at the address below. Requests concerning Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry, Trakt, Simkl, Plex, or other third parties are also subject to those providers' deletion procedures.
